As someone born and raised in Jinan, this city is no longer just an initial amazement to me—it has become a deep-seated familiarity and attachment. Jinan is like a thick book, with every page filled with stories, and each time I turn a page, I discover something new and exciting.
The springs of Jinan are the soul of this city. The three gushing streams of Baotu Spring surge day and night, resembling boiling water with an imposing grandeur. I still remember how, as a child, my parents would take me to Baotu Spring Park, where I would lean over the edge of the pond, curiously staring at the constantly bubbling water, imagining a mysterious world beneath. Black Tiger Spring, on the other hand, is like a heroic warrior, with water gushing from the tiger’s mouth, roaring like a beast. In summer, people bring all kinds of containers to collect the water, using it for tea or cooking—the sweet taste of the spring water is unique to Jinan. These springs are not just nature’s gifts but an integral part of the lives of Jinan’s people, carrying countless memories.
Jinan’s rich history and culture unfold like a magnificent painting. Around Daming Lake, ancient buildings stand harmoniously, and Lixia Pavilion quietly sits in the middle of the lake, as if whispering tales of past poets and scholars composing verses in its serene surroundings. Thousand Buddha Mountain, adorned with countless Buddha carvings, showcases the exquisite craftsmanship and devout faith of ancient artisans. During childhood holidays, my family would take me to these places, where I listened to elders recount ancient legends and historical tales. It was through these experiences that Jinan’s cultural heritage took root in my heart.
As time passes, Jinan continues to evolve. Some old streets have been renovated, becoming cleaner and more visually appealing. Kuanhouli has transformed into a bustling food street, attracting visitors from all over with its diverse culinary offerings. Yet, walking through these revamped streets sometimes brings a tinge of melancholy—those once-familiar old houses and shops, though worn, were filled with the warmth of everyday life.
Urban development has brought towering skyscrapers and more convenient transportation. The expansion of the metro system has made travel more efficient. However, the pursuit of modernization also presents challenges. For instance, urban expansion may impact the surrounding natural environment. Preserving Jinan’s precious spring resources and ecological balance while advancing development requires careful thought.
I love Jinan—its springs, its cultural heritage, and its ever-growing vitality. This city has witnessed my growth, and I hope to witness its journey toward a perfect balance between tradition and modernity, development and preservation, writing an even more brilliant chapter in its history.
